Job Description – PLC Engineer

 Expertise in Technical Project Management for PLC projects.

 Knowledge of Design, Development, Procurement, Testing and Commissioning of PLC’s in

green field and brown field Oil & Gas projects.

 Minimum of 5 years demonstrable experience in PLC solutions with good knowledge and

experience in Pre-commissioning, Commissioning of PLC ‘s (SIEMENS, SCHNEIDER,

ALLEN BRADELY, GE Fanuc, Unitronics, HIMA) in a Green / Brown field Projects.

 Having sound knowledge of communication protocols and Networks: such Ethernet/IP,

Profibus, Device Net, ControlNet, Modbus etc.

 Proficiency in PID, PFD, Cause and Effect, interlock narrative, Data sheets, single line

DWG, Switchgear & HVAC understanding.

 Detailed experience in review of documents submitted by PLC OEM not limited to Site

Survey Report, Material Submittal, BOM, System Architecture, Network Interconnection

Drawing, Control Cabinet General Architecture, Wiring & Power distribution drawings,

Power & Heat Dissipation Calculation, DCS Graphics for Package PLCs, SOE List,

Functional Design Specification, HMI Detailed Design Specification.

 Involved in review & preparation of FAT Procedure, Method statement for PLC retrofit &

FAT Punch List Clearance Template

 Knowledge in review of SAT Procedure, Inspection and test plan (ITPs), Method statement,

SAT Punch List Clearance Template, PLC & HMI Application back-up log document, As-

Built drawings package (Auto-Cad existing update/Red markup) As-built approval log sheet

& Training manuals documents

 Coordinate with construction team and manage vendors to ensure the construction, pre-

commissioning and startup completion is on schedule.

 System Design in terms of sizing of system hardware and software’s.

 Participate in project closeout activities, including client handover, documentation turnover,

and lessons learned sessions.

Responsibilities

Responsible for below activities in any upgrade or new PLC installation/ commissioning

 Method Statement

Ensure technical accuracy and compliance with I&E standards and aspects.

 Checklist for System Upgrades (e.g., Pre-shutdown, Pre-startup, Post-startup)

Validate technical accuracy for PLCs, instrumentation, and control systems.

 Bill of Materials (BOM)

Verify that components meet technical and functional specifications.

 SAT (Site Acceptance Test) Procedure

Validate testing parameters and ensure compliance.

 FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) Procedure

Ensure FAT covers all functional and safety requirements.

 QA/QC Procedures

Verify that testing and quality standards align with industry best practices.

 ITP (Inspection and Test Plan)

Validate test points, acceptance criteria, and critical checkpoints.

 Material Certificates

Verify compliance with technical standards (IEC, ANSI, IEEE).

 Equipment and Material Specifications and Approval Sheets

Ensure compatibility with control system requirements.

 Updated Engineering Drawings for Each PLC/System

Review for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

 System Architecture (New + Existing to be Modified)

Validate architecture for robustness, scalability, and cybersecurity.

 Logic Diagram/Wiring Diagram (Existing to be Modified)

Ensure correct logic sequencing and control philosophy.

 Control Narratives (If Any Changes)

Validate that logic descriptions align with programming requirements.

 Panel GA Diagram (Existing to be Modified)

Review technical placement of components for efficiency.

 I/O List (Existing to be Modified)

Validate input/output mapping for correctness and other considerations.

 Engineering, Operation & Maintenance Manuals

Review technical content for completeness.

 HMI Documents

Verify screen design, control functionality, and response times.

 All Documents Related to SOE (New for Most PLCs)

Validate SOE configurations for event logging accuracy.

 Panel Heat Load Calculation (Existing to be Modified)

Ensure calculations meet thermal management requirements.
